Social Connect and Responsibility (SCR) activities are designed to take learning beyond classrooms and textbooks. Through hands-on experiences, they help students understand the connection between society, culture, and the environment. As part of my SCR activities, I participated in three meaningful experiences—tree plantation under Module 1,
a heritage walk to Antaragange in Kolar,
an industrial visit to the Bidadi Waste-to-Energy Plant. Each experience offered a unique perspective on responsibility, sustainability, and preservation.

🌱Plantation of Jackfruit Tree –

activity focused on the plantation and adoption of a tree, encouraging environmental responsibility at an individual level. For this activity, I planted an Artocarpus heterophyllus (Jackfruit) tree, a native species known for its nutritional, ecological, and economic value.

Planting the jackfruit tree was a deeply satisfying and meaningful experience that allowed me to connect closely with nature. It made me realize that environmental conservation does not always require large-scale actions; instead, it begins with small, thoughtful, and consistent efforts at the individual level. The jackfruit tree is not only valuable for the nutritious food it provides but also for the shade it offers, its ability to improve air quality, and its role in supporting biodiversity by attracting birds and other organisms.

As I planted and nurtured the sapling, I developed a stronger sense of responsibility toward its growth and survival. This process taught me the importance of patience, regular care, and long-term commitment, as the benefits of tree plantation are realized gradually over time. More importantly, planting the tree in the name of my mother added emotional significance to the activity, making it a symbol of love, respect, and gratitude.

Overall, this plantation activity strengthened my bond with the environment and reinforced the idea that planting even a single tree can contribute positively to a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future for coming generations.

Heritage Walk to Antaragange:⛰️🚶

As part of the SCR heritage walk, I visited Antaragange in Kolar, a
place of great historical, cultural, and spiritual importance. The trek through rocky terrain led us to the ancient Sri Kashi Vishweshwara Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple, located amidst natural caves and hills, reflects the rich architectural and spiritual heritage of Karnataka.

The walk provided insights into the historical significance of the temple and its role as a pilgrimage site for centuries. Exploring the caves and learning about the traditions associated with the temple helped me appreciate the need to preserve our cultural heritage. This experience emphasized that heritage conservation is as important as environmental conservation, as both shape our identity and legacy.

⚡ Visit to the Bidadi Waste-to-Energy Plant:

The Bidadi WtE plant converts non-recyclable dry waste into electrical energy using controlled combustion and steam turbines. The plant receives segregated dry waste from Bengaluru city and is designed to process large quantities of refuse-derived fuel (RDF). Observing the operations provided insight into waste handling, combustion, emission control, and energy generation.

🌍 Reflection and Learning Outcome
These SCR activities collectively taught me that responsibility towards society comes in many forms—planting trees, preserving heritage, and adopting sustainable technologies. Each experience reinforced the idea that sustainable development requires awareness, participation, and commitment from individuals and communities alike.

ORGANIC FARMING 🚜🧑‍🌾

Organic farming is an agricultural system that uses natural inputs such as compost, green manure, bio-fertilizers, and biological pest control instead of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. It aims to maintain soil fertility, protect the environment, and produce healthy food.

We learnt about how to use the time by working in IT field and non 80 field by the brother and we learn how to protect the form and the other things of the basics we spent more time with with the brother and learn a lot of things so we can be used helpful in our future and nature was very good enjoyed very much the day was very helpful for us and informative day 🙂

The SCR journey provided a holistic learning experience by connecting environmental care, cultural preservation, and technological innovation. Planting a jackfruit tree instilled a sense of responsibility toward nature, the heritage walk to Antaragange deepened respect for our cultural roots, and the visit to the Bidadi Waste-to-Energy Plant showcased modern solutions for environmental sustainability. Together, these experiences shaped my understanding of social responsibility and inspired me to contribute positively toward a sustainable and culturally rich future.
